As there is absolutely no mention of Jerusalem in the Koran, why do Muslims, despite a Jewish presence there for 3,000 years, think they have any claim whatsoever to it?

Muslims also have claim on the Prophets Jews and Christians believe in as they are the ones following their teachings more than the Jews and Christians. Even those Prophets never called themselves Jew or Christian as these were either name of a Tribe or a name given centuries after those Prophets had gone past. So first of all let Jews and Christians act and worship the way those Prophets (pbu) did and then the rest of the issues would be decided.

That's not the reason, is it now. The reason Muslims think they have a claim to Jewish prophets is because Islam high-jacked the Jewish prophets and claimed them for its own. Islam didn't come into being until long after the Jewish prophets were dead - and that includes Islam's other famously revered prophet, Jesus.

The Jews may be up for it, (on certain conditions) but Muslims never, because they are dedicated to the total annihilation of all the Jews in the world, which at 14 million worldwide, is not much more than the population of Cairo alone.

I’m guessing that had the conversation revolved around the Jews it may have been different - I don’t know – but what I do know is that the Jews aren’t the only people Islam has its sights set on.

I think Vetustee needs to read about context and history about 3 Jewish tribes He/she is talking about. I would not say anything more than that.
As for ISIS one just needs to see which are the countries being destroyed by these so called "Muslims" and majority of the people the have killed and it would not be difficult to understand who these people are and what is their agenda.
