So I recently just started working at a McDonald’s location which happens to be the busiest location in my city. And I’ve only been working there for 2 weeks and I already can’t handle all the stress. I’m working in the kitchen and I didn’t even apply to be working kitchen. I’m still in high school and work part time but I’ve been constantly working. I’ve had no downtime for homework or socializing. My life is school, McDonald’s, and sleep. I can’t sleep at night because I’m so worried about my next shift. My stomach has been upset since I started working because I’ve been so stressed and my temper has been really short. I don’t know how much longer I can handle this. It’s already taken a toll on my health and it’s starting to become too much. I can quit anytime I choose but I’d hate to give up so easily. I need opinions on what to do? Thanks

If it's affecting your health that's a warning sign. Unless they give you less hours and you think about yourself more then IMHO you should quit. Then look for another job that is less hassle and injurious to your health. Good luck.

so are you being given more hours work than you expected?

I told them I had a high availability. However, I didn’t not expect to be working 5-6 days a week
How can you work 5-6 days a week and be in high school?
Tell them you can't manage those hours, as you have to go to school too. If they can't reduce them, then you should look for something else.
My advice would be the same as cloverjo’s

It’s part time so I work after school and weekends. They’re really understaffed so that’s why I’m called in so much. And even with less shifts I’m still really stressed
Have a look around at work, is anybody else stressing about burgers?
Give it time and try to relax sometime, it's not life or death.
Are you in the UK?
If so you are probably working too many hours for someone in High School.
So TELL them!
Ive had jobs that have stressed me in the past and have simply walked out of. Life to short to stress over a job.

Just tell them that you are not able to do Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or whatever. It is the managements problem if they are understaffed, not yours. High School is more important. You need to get those grades. (You are American, I take it?)

Just take the red pill. :))
There's no need to be flippant when someone asks a valid question. The OP is obviously concerned about how this job is impacting on other obligations...like school.
McDs rely on young workers because they can pay you so much less than the over 22year olds, and because you are often new to work and feel obliged to take all the shifts that come you way.

Don't quit. But when you go in next ask to speak to your supervisor and tell them that your availability has changed. Tell them that over Christmas and from the new term onwards, you have more study work and can need to change to 2 shifts a week.

Dont feel guilty, dont feel apologetic, dont feel like a failure, just be straightforward and confident in standing up for yourself. They wont sack you, they need you too much but it will force them to find another teenager to take up the slack.

Thanks everyone for your feedback it really means a lot:)
I would tell you to leave, if is getting you down that much also if it affecting your education think what is going to be best in the long term a better job or a dead end job in a fast food outlet there must be other part time work in cafes.
