Hi,

Had a Worchester Bosch boiler fitted in 2013, by a WB accredited engineer (who no longer fits boiler or is Gas Safe registered). At the same time, he fitted a Honeywell programmer which I've only just found out has probably never worked. It won't heat water unless the heating's on too.

The tenant at the time never told me, & the current tenants have always used the immersion to heat their water - the immersion must have been switched on by the previous tenant & never turned off.

A WB engineer was due on Thursday but has now spoken to the tenants, to do some pre-visit diagnostics, & has said it sounds like the problem isn't with the boiler (still under guarantee), more likely the control unit (programmer) or the zone valve (?), & they both need to be "reviewed" by the installer.

Do WB have any responsibility for their accredited engineer, or would it be down to the engineer himself (who, I would imagine, won't want to know after this time !) ? Or have I just got to get another boiler engineer round there to fix something that shouldn't need fixing ! :((

Sore point, CW. These days, boiler warranties tend to exclude the programmer/control unit, since they are fitted by the installer as an extra item.

Of course it should be the responsibility of the original installer. In your case that's not an option now. Nothing for it but to get someone new in.

Y-e-s, The Builder ... I've given WB a piece of my mind, grrr. Accredited = they train the engineer = should be done properly regardless of whose parts they use, in my opinion anyway.

Turns out, British Gas tell me, it's covered by their Service Plan that's been in place since 1990 (& never used !) so the £1000s I've paid haven't been completely in vain. I won't be 100% confident until after their visit later in the week though ... if it was wrongly installed I'm sure they'll let me know by way of a 'NORmous bill :(
