Some of you are bound to have reached checkout only to find the postage has jumped up.

I usually look for an alternative supplier.

An MSP is now taking a stand and has launched a website to gather details of companies.

Fell free to take a look and support this if you've been affected.

I'm in Perth and this has never happened to me, although now that I have said that it will happen tomorrow. I didn't even know that the north of Scotland was charged this extra amount.

I have signed the petition - it is nearing its target.

I am not sure what the simplest solution is - and I am much too tired to think it through. ☺

It even happens on ebay!

There was also something a while ago about an oil delivery - 2 neighbours separated by a fence - one in one postcode, the other in a different postcode, different prices!

Can't afford, don't buy it.
Unless delivery really does incur extra transport costs then those surcharges shouldn't apply.
I take the overall costs in to account when comparing suppliers - no such thing as free delivery, it's included in the advertised sale price.
I'm annoyed by companies who don't refund delivery charges when you return a whole order. They get round it simply by calling it a 'delivery charge' and not a 'postage fee'. I've had arguments with several online retailers over this. They won't budge. I just don't buy from them again.
Cloverjo, you should report the company to the Trading Standards if you bought goods online and did not get the original delivery costs refunded.
They have to refund that cost by law, but not the cost for returning the item unless they advertise that to do under their terms and conditions.
Since the advent of on-line shopping, I don't remember ever paying a delivery charge. I have a spread sheet that I use to compare prices on anything I need, I will never include a retailer who charges delivery. I like Collect+, great to just collect locally plus free returns.
Many retailers charge for Collect+.
I often get a cheaper price including delivery than a retailer who offers free delivery. Pays to shop around
Baldric, it isn't a case of if you can't afford it don't buy it. Some months ago I needed a catch for a small box I was making. It cost £3:00, postage? £19:00. e mailed company asking if it should be £1:90.
No came the answer so I ordered from another source, post free. The other source was in Hong Kong. We are being ripped off with carriage.
