I am looking for a reasonably priced DVD Player/Recorder, with a hard drive.

But although they were once easy enough to buy, for some reason they are not now., anyone one know why?

DVD technology is rather 'old hat' these days and, unless you go for a model incorporating Blu-Ray, it can't handle HD. So (with memory far cheaper than it used to be) hard drives rule nowadays.

However you might be interested in the Panasonic DMREX97. It's well-reviewed on many websites and priced at £249 from Richer Sounds, Currys, John Lewis and AO. Alternatively you can buy a 'manufacturer refurbished' model (as new, with a full warranty) for £209 here:

Thank you Buenchico but for the price it doesn't seem to have what some cheaper models have.

/// Sadly, the DMR-EX97 is more notable for what it doesn’t offer – there’s no Freeview Play, Blu-ray playback, 4K networking, smart apps or Wi-Fi. That’s a lot of missing features for such an expensive product, and DVD recording certainly isn’t enough to justify the price. ///
