He's been able to see things for years but even since moving out 5 years ago its gradually been getting worse and now he's getting scared because last night he saw something which took the form of his partner and it was trying to lead him somewhere?. He also has this women which sometimes visits him at night and whispers in his ear and sits on his chest, she can move things and turns of his TV and laptop which he keeps on so there is noise, he says when these are on she doesn't visit him as often. He also calls the women Doreen because she visits him so often

Has he sought help?

Not yet because he is scared and doesn't fully believe that he might be a sensitive, do you know how he can try and block them out?
No, I don't he needs to consult someone - start with his Doctor.

Nothing to fear, he'll be pointed in the direction of some help.
It sounds like he needs psychiatric help.

Thanks and i know its not medical because all of this only happens at night when he goes to sleep
Interesting he doesn't fully believe but you seem convinced.

Get him to discuss this with a Doctor.
He's dreaming then.
Could be night terrors, yes.
It sounds to be stress-related to me. Something as simple as taking valerian tablets could ease the problem:

he keeps the TV and computer on because it keeps one of his hallucinations at bay but the hallucination can turn it off....that's not logical. Yes, IMO start at the GP.....
there are things that happen in life that cannot be explained, don't dismiss him out of hand. Perhaps he needs to speak to someone who shares this
doctor first Murray!
It doesn't hurt to explore multiple avenues at once. Explain you both need to discover where his experience is coming from and pursue both. I think I'd resist taking medication as an early option. Investigation/counselling and play it by ear.
I know people who most certainly are sensitives.. I am not in any way, but have seen things that 12 other people present did also..
Have to say that chest sitting spirits sound unlikely. Is his TV and laptop in his bedroom ? Maybe they make sounds that trigger something in his mind as he sleeps. Get him to bite the bullet and clear the bedroom of electrical stimulus, get a proper wind down period/routine before retiring for the night. See if things "improve".
The chest-sitting spirits sounds like sleep paralysis, as jno said. I've experienced it myself. It is very frightening.

The other things could be him spooking himself more from that fright, or the weird state between asleep and awake.

Alcohol, stress and lack of sleep can be a big part of things like this.
