When trying to access our online banking at two different UK banks we get a message to say we don't have access - one is a supposed error message, the other a flat denial. We are abroad at the moment (within the EU) so cannot easily phone in as suggested. Can anyone throw any light on what is going on, is there some sort of scare on or something ("watch out for foreign approaches....") - this is new over just the past few days because we were on recently and everything worked fine ?

It is because you ARE abroad. You have to be in the UK.
Are you with LLoyds Halifax or TSB, all their sites have been offline today. I cannot see why it should make any difference being abroad, we have often logged in when overseas, and our friends who live overseas completely manage their UK accounts on line.

Thank you, ubasses, that is obviously the explanation - clearly the default messages are off the mark, maybe they can't gather enough energy to set up a response admitting reality.

Postdog, we have been accessing online banking abroad for many years - the present situation is completely new as we were using internet banking in the past few days.
