Anyone had this problem. If you’ve set up a direct debit for X amount to be taken monthly, why is it, if you pay a 1 off additional amount, the direct debit of the X amount isn’t taken that month.

If you mean for a credit card or somesuch you must remember that it is the other company who are requesting the monies not you sending it. As such if you have said 'please take £100 per month' and then you pay £500 they will not ask for the £100 as you have already overpaid the agreed amount. If you paid an amount less than the monthly then they would take enough to take it to the monthly amount.
my gas and electric are on DD and that doesn't happen to me....I'd be talking to the recipient of the DD.
Yours is probably a fixed monthly DD though, Woofgang, whereas with malagabob's credit card it's a variable DD
I very often make additional manual payments to my energy provider and they still take the agreed sum every month (which is what I want them to do).
Some credit card companies operate in the way you describe, though. As long as they get the minimum before they ask for the DD they cancel the DD for that month
Sorry, malagob has set a fixed monthly payment, so forget that
My C/C company still takes my DD, irrespective of any extra payments.
It might be that the overpayment is made close to DD payment date, and they have already set the system in motion for the full amount.
