I am seeking a 2-3 min poem to read for a drama class. It needs to be contemporary and serious rather than a kids poet. I really don't know much about poetry, especially modern ones. Can anyone suggest a poem to read? This is for a 30 year old male to read out. Thanks!

You might read one or several poems by the late Guy Davenport. He was one of America's finest poets and writers till his death about ten years ago. He is easy to Google, especially his poetry, and his works read easily. He is contemporary, not overly known, and should impress your drama professor -- and charm those to whom you are reading.

Look up the poems of Brian Patten or Roger Mc Gough.
Try Carol Ann Duffy.
Probably too late now, but I would suggest Wallace Stevens, this would fit the bill, read slowly - electrifying!
