Our 14 year old cat has always been a faddy eater. Whats good one day not so the next. I no longer know what to try him with, he is still eating bits a dry food but no much. Does anyone have any suggestions. I know this can be common among cats and in all other respects he appears fine. Perhaps its just that he doesnt need as much as he spend a lot of time sleeping.

As long as he's happy, I wouldn't worry too much.

However the next time that you're in a big Tesco or Asda (or anywhere else with a rotisserie counter) get him a piece of freshly cooked chicken. If my four cats are anything to go by, he'll love it!

Cats can be a pain in the behind when it comes to food. I'm sure that they do it on purpose.

When did he last get his teeth checked? At his age it is possible that there may be a problem.
Cats tend to get more 'difficult' as they get older and your puss has had 14 years of you pandering to him.
Next time your passing get him checked over just to be on the safe side, try him with chicken and fish, keep some cooked in the freezer so you can pull it out on demand and nuke it.

Is he still grooming himself? This, along with the symptoms you mention is how I first got a sign that my cat was ill, although she was a bit older than yours when it started.
I get bags of cooked chicken breast strips from ALDI for wonky and Mia..if they wont eat the tinned cat food they'll gobble this down... cat food first thing cos they'll eat anything then... chicken later and always a supply of biccies and remember water !
I was thinking maybe his teeth are sensitive. For piece of mind you maybe want to get him checked out. It's probably nothing
I wouldn't worry too much.
Peace!

Thanks for the response about my "fussy puss". His teeth were checked in July when he had his booster jabs and the Vet was happy then. In all other respects he seems fine, still grooming and rushes down the garden with the wind up his tail. Just trying to wind me up I think and he's succeeding !! I'll just keep an eye on him and try the chicken :)

Well I have now tried him on one of the more expensive brands, and yes please thank you very much we're eating that, today!. He's got me round his tiny paw. Bless him.
You’ll never get him back on the cheaper brands now - I know from experience !
Yes genie lol he knows how to manipulate you ok.
Mine got a mysterious limp today which disappeared after I gave him some of the chicken I just cooked!
