What happened this morning.....

I'd just like to know my fellow ABers views on an incident that happened this morning, if you don't mind that is!

As I was happily walking up the road with the pram, I was stopped by a woman in her 60's (?) who was frantic, she'd locked her baby grand-daughter in the back seat of her car. Sadly I can't jemmy car doors open or else I would have, however i offered to stand beside the car whilst she called into the police station which was literally 20 paces away to ask for their help. She returned from the station and said that the police were unable to help but they'd called the AA who should be with her within 20 minutes.
As I wasn't going to leave this distraught woman on her own, I offered to wait with her. Luckily the baby was asleep in the car.
45 minutes later an AA van turned up, and got into the car within minutes for her.

Now what I'm disgusted and fuming about is that not one policeman managed to get his fat backside off from behind his desk to amble across the road to see how this poor woman or the baby was doing in this baking heat. I appreciate that they may not be able to actually get into the car, but not even to help placate this understandably upset woman?

I'm in two minds whether to write a formal complaint over this, do you think it's justified?

Thanks for reading.

Oh righty Scotman, thanks for replying :-)

Well if that's the case I sincerely hope they never have a serious accident on there doorstep!
you must forgive kazza for being so thick Boo + Julie,
wasn't she the one a few weeks back who told one poor greenie that if he wanted thanks, then she wood have to consider thanking google every time she asked a question DOH !! and theres me thinking it was automated not some little oik answering as quick as he could

not worth the bother that one must be the hormones daah
what a nice polite reply! Sorry that i feel differently to you about stuff, but really no need to get personal just because i do is there? Can i just point out that far from being thick, the explanation i put forward was in fact endorsed by the person in this post who seems most qualified to answer, an ex policeman?

I don't happen to think you have to thank people for their answers - surely the reason they come here and answer questions isnt to be thanked, but to derive some satisfaction from answering (selfish, the lot of us i say, just coming here for all that warm glow when you get the answer right!)

and mycatis, i do realise that babies could die in hot cars, hence the suggestion to break the window if she was that concerned ...
the police do not have master keys.

if they had i would have agreed that he should have come out to help.

but i don't agree that he should have come out to merely sympathise - people get upset and distressed all the time - the police are not brought in to comfort them, they have a lot more important things to do than comfort people

i agree that this must have been horrible for the poor woman and i'm glad all was well in the end, but he could do no more than she could do and so he did the right thing and called the rac.

i also think that if he had a master key and the car was only 20 paces away, surely he would have come and opened the door - would any person, in their right mind, not have done that if they'd been able to?? especially someone whose job it is to help people! you'd have to be really hard hearted to do that.

i think if he could have, he would have...

incidentally, i vaguely remember a story of something similar happeneing many years ago and the police smashed the window - the family tried to bill them...
now i look like a right naana, as the post i was referring to above has been taken away!!!!!!!
