Recently I saw an appeal where you could fill a shoebox with items, treats etc and send it to someone for Xmas- I’ve done it before. There’s ones where you send them to soldiers, ones for kids and the elderly abroad in struggling countries etc, but I can’t seem to find a decent one this year that doesn’t involve trying to find a random drop off point etc. Can anybody point me in the right direction of one? It’s just something I really like doing. Thankyou muchly.....

Afternoon Smowball. My OH and I have packed boxes for Samaritan's Purse. Although we are not particular religious we like the ethos of this organisation. In Lancashire there are 6 drop off points very close to us. I would hope your location would have similar. Maybe worth a look.
Just read an article by Humanists UK, may do more research before we do shoeboxes this year. Let me know what you decide to do Smowball.

Oh what did the article say??
It seems that the more information you get, the harder it is to do the right thing.
Question Author
Just read it. They may well indeed give out literature at some point but says they never ever put it in the boxes.
Question Author
Still think I’ll do it - thanks for the link x
Could your local church be doing this Somw? My daughter is involved through her church and ever year they fill approx. 200 shoeboxes which mostly go to Eastern Europe.
Sorry "Smow" duh!
My OH expects shoeboxes at Christmas, but with the original contents.
I think doing one for soldiers is a good idea.

Will check with church.
I have looked at the soldiers but it’s not as easy if you aren’t sending one to a specific name.
The Round Table usually do them in this area.

I think. Lot of homeless shelters and such like do them as well so you need to find an organisation youn like and ask them what they need. The ones we do in school are children's ones with the usual toothbrush and paste, brush, hat, gloves and scarf but with a toy and colouring or something.
I read sometime ago about an organization that was collecting shoeboxes for kids in Africa and then putting religious literature, including Bibles, in the boxes. At first (as an atheist who detests religion) I found it offensive and deceitful. But on second thoughts I realised that the recipients would probably just throw away the literature anyway and enjoy the other contents of the box.
