That's a journey I've done a couple of times, I'll have a check on my route and post back ASAP. I always take it easy with one overnight stop.

Hi Cris r, last time I used the AA Route Planner, 8 hours, 547 miles. We stopped about 50 miles before Madrid, depending on time of year, traffic is not to bad up to Madrid, busy to Alicante.
The best route planner for European travel is, without a doubt, ViaMichelin:

That offers three routes, with two going via the outskirts of Madrid and one going via Zaragoza. While the latter is the most expensive (because of toll charges) it might well be the easiest drive as it's almost all on motorways. If you wanted a stopover en route it would also be far easier to get into central Zaragoza than central Madrid.
