How Do I Get Rid Of The Smell Of Onions From A Plastic Bowl?

I had to leave some onions in brine for 2 days before pickling them.
The bowl I used was plastic and now stinks of onion.....which is a shame as I often use that bowl for mixing cake baking ingredients.
I've washed it several times now, rubbed it with bicarb and left it overnight and it is currently full of bicarb and water having a good soak.
It still whiffs of onion.
Any other ideas, or do I have to only use that bowl for stuff that contains onions now?

I know.....should have used a glass bowl...but the plastic one is big, roomy and not so heavy to carry.
Thanks, folks.

Thanks folks.

will try the lemon first then, if necessary the vinegar.

You can make onion cake.
If cleaning won't remove the fragrance how do you know it'll affect your cakes ?

I don't know it will, but I strongly suspect it will and I really do not want my next sponge cake tainted with onion.
Ok, but I'd have thought cheese & onion sponge was well worth a try :-)
Maybe with a cream cheese filling and topped with tomato puree.
I suspect that you might have to bin it, Ladyalex.
Some Milton or steradent may well help.

Well, I've tried the baking soda and lemon juice ...better but still whiffs a bit.

I'll have a go with the Milton now before consigning it to the garden shed.
Thanks all, I'll keep you updated.........I know you're all agog about this.
The trouble with plastic is that if you use an electric whisk it becomes abraded and consequently takes on flavours and aromas. You get the same problem with polypropylene chopping boards.

Will continue to perch on the edge of my seat with baited breath for the outcome :-)

Latest update:
the Milton has helped a great deal.....but I can still detect a faint whiff of onion.
It's now on its last soaking in Milton before it is consigned to the shed for lordalex to use as he thinks best.

Final update

It still whiffs and has been consigned to the shed.

Thanks for all the advice, folks.
My advice.....use a glass bowl for onions.
