groan
Sigh is Groan, but you heard it to sound Grown.
Sigh is the definition so GROAN
'I heard' is homophone indicator for 'grown'

I think it could be either - not clear from the clue
I would go for 'grown'
The clue surely is Sigh.
Definition could also be 'had developed'
Always struggle deciding on these sort of clues.

Does the punctuation play a part?

Quite often punctuation is used to mislead.
On that basis grown seems more likely
Sigh is the definition - word play after the comma

Thanks all ........ I see that some of you are thinking my way ....... that it could be either ! lol
As 1ozzy has said, punctuation is often put in clues to confuse - still think could be either
