How democratic! The Speaker is supposed to be neutral.

From the link, 'So there will be some Members of Parliament who say, “I want to be able at the end of all this if I’m not satisfied, to say No, to try to persuade other Members of Parliament to say No, and to hope that No might delay Brexit or prevent Brexit”.

‘Do they have a right to argue that point of view, they absolutely do. Am I advocating that point of view? Absolutely not.’'

Looks like he's just stating the facts to me.
At least he's honest, most of the remainiacs would ignore the result if they thought they'd get away with it.
what you mean like Brexiters can drag remainiacs out of the market whilst saying
we are only doing what is good for you ( and what we want anyway )
Yes PP, on the basis that the majority voted to leave. However those desperate to stay in the EUSSR have 26 countries to choose from, any thoughts where you might go PP?
MPs should represent their constituencies.

My MP is a staunch remainer, but his constituents voted overwhelmingly for Brexit, so he should vote according to his constituents wishes, and not personal / party way.
And vice versa, if the Leaver has a constituency that voted remain, then that MP should follow his constituents desire.

I remember the dreadful Blairite Harriet Harman as acting Labour leader, not campaigning against the Conservative's Welfare Bill in 2015. She justified that by saying the electorate had voted Conservative in the election, so her majesty's opposition should not oppose the Gvernment's bill. (No wonder Corbyn swept away the Blairite's in the leadership contest that Autumn.

Gromit: The referendum was a UK wide simple binary choice, it was not conducted per area, the fact that certain areas voted one way or the other is purely of statistical interest, it has no bearing on how MPs should represent their constituents. The governement leaflet clearly stated that the government would implement the result, it is therefore incumbent on all MPs to do exactly that.
Alternative headline: "Speaker argues that Parliament remains sovereign in this country"...
He's right. MPs can ultimately ignore the referendum result, their constituents, their party whips, and vote however they like.

Whether it'd be morally right to do so is another matter.

His impartiality is questionable.
// the fact that certain areas voted one way or the other is purely of statistical interest, it has no bearing on how MPs should represent their constituents. //

I disagree. MPs represent a small area 1/650 of the country. They are not national representatives. You wouldn't expect a Labour MP to vote for the Conservative Government Policies just because the majority of the country voted Tory.
And Leave got 42% of those eligible to vote, so it isn't even the majority.
//And Leave got 42% of those eligible to vote, so it isn't even the majority. //

Ah that old chestnut being wheeled out.

Leave got the majority of those who voted. Those who did not vote it has to be assumed didnt care one way or another enough to vote.
Linda....he is saying "could" not should.
Think we are remaining then, God has spoken.
He is simply pointing out that MP s are not bound to vote either for or against any motion. They can make up their own minds as to how they vote on this as in any debate. Of course The Daily Wail is trying to phase it as a recommendation to vote against Brexit, when the truth is that he is just making the point that they can vote for or against it as they or their constituents wish.
Impartial my @rse.
Sack him.
Your question says SHOULD when he actually said COULD. Your mistake totally changes the meaning of what was said !
He is actually proving he IS neutral by saying that they have the option of voting either way. Yet you are suggesting it means the exact opposite .
