I've just had a chat with a friend of mine. He lives in a barn conversation in Derbyshire. In some derelict farm buildings nearby, they are doing the same.
The resident rats have decided to desert the sinking farm house and have found a new home in his home:-(
Holes have been knocked in walls, floor boards lifted and ceilings brought down to lay the poison.
At the moment there's a stench of dead rat and maggots everywhere!:-(

Barmaid and her trusty side-kick ASBO have recently been out Rat hunting. I do believe the little ninja despatched and ate a few.

I like Rats but they are smart animals and are not easy to eradicate.

A very first world problem though, isn't it.
Never had a rat problem but Mr Cake reached into the hopper that contains animal feed and got bitten by a mouse. He launched it over the back fence and received the silent treatment for the rest of the day.

You can't blame the rats for wanting to upscale......
even if they can't get to the source of the maggots they will at least turn into flies and can be dealt with, for the others rat-traps
I am the official Rat Catcher extraordinaire to this village! Well the furry one catches them, I despatch them with a shovel.

Your friend has my sympathy. Dead rat smells extremely unpleasant, although live rat is considerably worse.
