Every day I scan the news and I make a note of the items that I think AOG will start a thread on. If I am right, £2 goes in the kitty and I put the total on the first race of the day on Saturday.
This week the horse won at 15 - 1 so I am quids in.

:D We play the Strictly bingo - we each guess how many times we will hear 'journey' during the show.

Shockingly spiteful article about Judy Finnegan in today's DM - with lots and lots of photos. :(

anybody betting on who's going to start a thread about Judy?

Mr Alba and I play the 'Lochaber' game on the Sottish weather forecasts.
EG will it get mentioned and if it does, how many times?
(no prizes tho)

And the 'hair game' in 4 in a Bed - double points if it's a short a curly
botheration hc, you have loads more fun in your house!!

One other we play is when watching The Chase, will Bradley lose it and when?
Also, will The Dark Destroyer smile ?
hc....sorry, but your game is WAY too easy....two (possibly three) subjects for "discussion" each and every day......

No thanks, Bernie - it's cold and wet out there. I'm not going out and you can't make me.
Anyway, AB is always with me, wherever I am.
whatever rocks your boat Albs lol
well done on your bet hc stuff the miseries
'Anyway, AB is always with me, wherever I am.'

that is just scary, was wondering about an ab'er at 2am when I went to the loo, glad to say they are still active but haven't posted since January.
bednobs - // i have a vaguley similar "bingo" game with my husband when i can be bothered.
We have a guess at how many times the word "flaunts" appears in the DM sidebar on a particular day.
If we are feeling bored with flaunts we might pick "busty"
the winner gets tea made for them //

For a change, try the word 'abs' - bonus point for 'toned abs'.

If you fancy a similar game with the printed edition, why not call out the sub-editors' hyperbole, available daily -

'heart-wrenching'
'blisteringly honest'
'make you weep'
'heroic'
and so on - you get the idea.
My lovely nan ( who is no more) used to have a little flutter. She always went by names. All the Sams, Hills, Reds, and Freds! She was very lucky with these names too!
My dad was a gambling addict. Gods knows how he picked his because he barely ever won :-)
Question Author
The internet must be a problem for gambling addicts - way too much temptation and too easy to place bets.
Yeah...luckily he couldn't even send a text message!!

Anyway...he got cured and paid his debts off.
I've never seen a 15/1. 14/1 yes. 16/1 yes. 15/1 never.(although 15/2 is common)
Perhaps someone who works as a settler can explain why.
I have never worked as a setter Spice, but my Grandad was a bookies runner in the days before betting shops were legal. He used to have to set the odds as he was "doing his rounds" to reflect his bookie's liabilities. Without going into great detail about "Vig" and "Overround" it would be difficult to nail without the readers having pretty good maths skills. Needless to say the odds 15/1, 17/1, 19/1 etc make the quick maths required, to make the book % Overrun, right for the bookie get more complicated. I know they have computers now but the tradition has stuck in some ways. Incidentally I looked at the betting history of the "horse" mentioned right up to 1 minute after midnight on the morning it was due to run . The best odds ever offered were 57/5 on an obscure Asian site and it touched 11/1 briefly on Skybet and Ladbrokes (plus a few other very low volume sites).

PS My Grandad used to get me as an 8 year old to check his maths, before going over to the butcher's( bookie) to hand over the loot and pick up his "meat". The butcher used to give me a few pennies, for keeping tucks and adding to the everyday innocence of the operation.
