I got as far as 'actors using props'. The 'erty' bit eludes me!
A prop(erty) is something an actor might have in his pocket
Question Author
Me too, Tilly! Thanks
Properties (props) are items used by actors (which may be in thier pockets?)
Question Author
Thanks all - a bit weak, I'd say. Cheekily. We don't really need 'in his pocket' at all
I didn't know that prop was an abbreviation of property! How did I not know that!

I thought it meant sort of 'something to 'lean' on and help with the acting lark. :-)
As it is cryptic it works I think - a gun,a handkerchief etc , all are props.
Question Author
Me too, Tilly, yet again!
We obviously think along the same lines, Miranda:-)
House (8)

Not very cryptic.

Thank you - that does make sense, Mamyalynne. I gracefully withdraw my cheeky criticism :)
