I just got myself a new laptop, Windows 10 naturally. With some sites I get 'site can't be reached' and 'such and such a site closed the connection', usually sites I have not visited before, but others that I regularly use. I have no idea why, I don't use a proxy and network diagnostics comes up with nothing... any ideas please? This happens on multiple browsers - I use Edge, Chrome and Opera.

Sounds like you have /or had an internet connection problem.Try re-booting your modem/wi-fi.
Question Author
Just tried that Danny - same problem. Other laptops are ok :(
Strange that it only happens on one of your laptops.I'm not technical enough to have any idea why, sorry.
Question Author
OK thanks for your help. I may try turning the modem off for longer
Like Danny I am not techie but could your new laptop have a security setting that is set extremely high .
OI.. Donny get that marmite !
Question Author
I wouldn't know how to find out, Danny - but for instance sometime I can get to 'Not Always Right' but sometimes not. Weird. I just tried downloading Firefox and can't run that as it claims the security certificate is not valid - for Firefox!
We have had our knuckles rapped once today for hi-jacking threads so I will answer this in CB.
Long shot I know, is the year, date and time set correctly on your new laptop?
Question Author
Yes Alice, as far as I can tell the date and time is correct.
As this only affects one laptop, I would say that is where the fault lies.I'm sure someone will be along that can assist you.
Connect your laptop to your router with an Ethernet cable and see if the problem persists. If it disappears you'll know that it's definitely a problem with your wifi connection. If it is,try resetting the TCP/IP stack. (It's easier than it sounds!):
Click in the search box at the bottom left of your screen.
Type the following line there:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Look in the results area above the box for the same text.
Click on it.
Restart your laptop.

Thanks Buenchico. Will give that a try when I can - it's not so easy to get a cable to it but will later and let you know.
Question Author
Hi Buenchico, I don't know if you will pick up on this. I tried out your latest tip, and it worked - for a few hours then went back to the same problem. I tried out your solution again but no luck this time. At the moment it does not like loading up my Hotmail email which is especially annoying as originally it was fine.
