Caterpillar On Hop Plant

I noticed today that something has been eating my hop plant. Found a caterpillar about 1" long dark brown with small hairs and a white stripe down its back. i have sprayed them and they seem to be deceased. Never seen one like that before anybody help.

Just after WW11 we used to go hop-picking but cannot recall ever seeing a caterpillar of any sort, but your query brought back fond memories of cooking on a camp fire and sleeping on straw pallyasses in a cow byre . It was brilliant!!
