Everything (bp, chol &sugar) is borderline but no medication this time.
Need to lose weight (Bmi 33.9)
Need to make life changes and go back in 6 months so everything is sugar free and low cholesterol now
That should do the trick
Shouldn't it?

Not if you just fill the saved calories with other food/drink.

The only way to lose weight is to burn more energy than you eat - so a regime of more exercise and controlled calorie intake *will* work - but only if the calorie intake is lower than the amount used each day.

Unless you are going to start running marathons, you probably need to keep the calorie intake under about 1200 per day to make much of an impact.

Good luck - I could also do with losing a good few kilos and it's proving irritatingly difficult to get started - there always seems to be an "I'll start next week" reason/excuse :+(
Ask to be referred to a dietician!
1200 calories is an awful low amount for an adult male to be on and not really sustainable over a long period.
Ric.Ror is female, islay - and I was talking about an initial hit rather than a permanent diet - probably need more like 1600 for a longer period of weight loss and around 2000 for maintenance.

For a male I'd say 1500 for a while (to re-educate the appetite) and then 1800 for the long haul diet and 2300 for maintenance.
Are you fat? Do you feel well?
How old are you? Are you on any medication?
To me BMI is valueless, but to other doctors it is an important index of healthiness.
What "trick" do you want it to do?
Sorry I had it in my head that she was male!
Healthy eating, some exercising, 6 months ? Yes that should do it . good luck :-)
Hi Ric,

Cutting out sugars and refined carbs is an excellent place to start. Fill your plate / container / bowl with an abundance of veggies before adding your proteins and carbs.

Eggs have been proven to burn fat and particularly target belly fat. You can eat as many eggs as you like and they will have no impact on your cholesterol levels.

Also extensive and emerging research has shown that people with a good abundance of gut bacteria are much slimmer on average than those whose intestinal flora is deplete. Plenty of probiotics will help and apple cider vinegar helps to nourish good gut bacteria. It is also thought to aid in reducing cholesterol levels.
Even though my mother was never fat she still slimmed down a lot by giving up sugar and walking regularly.
I will leave it to the professional on this thread to help you Ric.cor xx
Couscous, rice, mackerel, fruit, veg, pushbike.
Worked for me!
Me to !!!!
Those inner tubes take some chewing tho don't they Chill.
I'd agree with Nom, and say go low carb. Recent studies have shown it to be the most effective means of long lasting weight loss. Carbs may have more of a negative impact on health than fat in the diet. Reducing carb intake also has a positive effect on blood sugar, cholesterol and other markers.
Indeed ZM, it can prove tyring......

I'll get me coat!

I'm 55,no medication whatsoever, 5'6" weigh 14.9lbs
I feel really healthy. I walk on average at very least 1 mile a day - probably more
No smoking
Drink less than the weekly recommendations
Low carb would not be good as I am almost a veggie and don't like eggs
In that case I would ask for a referal to a dietician as they are they experts and can help you with your diet. Good luck x
Thanks ric.....very good......the important thing is not to get too neurotic about your health.
You need to lose a little weight....diets don't work....so forget that. Eat less, don't have seconds.....that is if you can ;-)
Probiotics, unless you have IBS, then forget them, there is no scientific evidence that they will affect health of longevity.
You walk....fine....keep it up.
That's it really.......pretty good report.
In that case, Ric, you can certainly optimise weight loss by getting rid of refined sugars and carbs and sticking with whole grains.

After weeks of feeling exhausted at times, very low blood pressure, just found out cause. Very low iron levels, and yet I eat a healthy diet but don't eat much red meat. Dr recommended I try improving my diet with lots of iron enriched foods or buy Floridix from chemist, of which I've done.
