Compulsory Purchase Order For House?

good morning all...we have received notice that by 2020 our property will come under a compulsory purchase order..there are 11 cottages who this will affect..we live right next to bluewater shopping centre and the highway agency wants to build new roads right through our properties to ease the traffic around here.
having looked online for any advice it looks like all we are entitled to is a market price for our house and a possible 10% on top for all the upheaval.
there is no way we are going to get like for like for a 2 bedroom house around this area be lucky to get a one bedroom flat..all this is so unfair why should we suffer because of all this.
we cant afford solicitors and all that stuff just haven't got the money!
anyone had dealings with a purchase order before or know anything about what to do?

thanks ladybirder very helpful when we spoke to highways agency people they said they reckon we are looking at 230,000 - 250,000 if so i'd be extremely happy to move knowing we are not going to worse off will see thursday after valuation is done

Now then, who told the lady with two children she has to give her husband half of the proceeds when she is forced to sell their home? If it wasn't her solicitor she should ignore whoever it was and then go and see one or even phone Shelter who will advise. She could possibly port the mortgage to a new property with the agreement of the lender and her husband. There are two children to be considered here and a court would put them first if it goes that far.

My neighbour spoke to my wife they are good friends she said she's giving him half of the sale of the house that's all I know I'm afraid I know she's very upset over it all as all of us are
If the children are her husband's, then he is also responsible for keeping a roof over their heads. If it is him and he is insisting on being given half at this time then she needs guidance from a solicitor. Perhaps your wife could persuade her to talk to someone who can advise on the legal position.

Update....our mid terrace cottage according to our local estate agent has been valued at £260,000 what a result for us!
Didn't expect that so if all goes ahead with highways agency we get on top of price 10% of cottage price plus they pay stamp duty..solicitors. .moving costs as well ..looks like we could have done very well if purchase order goes through (it will) so a good day today

At last got a letter from the Highways agency stating that our house is now blighted so now we can sell it them compulsory purchase order and can start looking properly around the Lincolnshire area were we want to move to ...at least we know where we stand now and can sort things out ...happy !
