In one heated exchange, a man can be heard saying: 'How can you use dogs against a people's protest?'
A police officer is then heard to reply: 'If you do not leave the field you will be arrested.'

So members of the community can be threatened with arrest on THEIR field but travellers can do what the hell they like ??

From Avon Plod:
'A dispersal notice has been put in place giving officers powers to direct any further protesters to leave the area and not return.'

So how come they cant act immediately on thee scum travellers?

No.

The member of the public was threatened with arrest for not obeying the instruction from a policeman, which constitutes a public order offence, which is an arrestable offence.

The travellers' trespass action was dealt with separately by appropriate issue of notice to depart, or face arrest.

So no, members of the community cannot behave as they wish anywhere, whether they own the field or not - and neither can the travellers, and the police dealt with both appropriately.

As to why travellers are not dealt with immediately, legislation demands a Court Order, which takes time.
So, andy, why don't the Police order each and every traveller, individually, to leave the field ... then treat them as they do the protestors?

There is no 'equality' - just the usual grotesque imbalance between the law-abiding and the law-ignoring.
why does it take a court order for them and not me? If I parked a caravan on my local park I'd be gone before I could say parasite. So why are travellers exempt?
Ther's only one of you, TTT - with no vulnerable kids and pregnant women - and you'd can't afford the fancy lawyers ...
I wonder how many 'Travellers' get took to court for trespass and criminal damage.
Also how many get done for no tax ( or whatever the Gov is calling it these days ) Insurance , MOT or even not having a driving licence.

Because that is an impractical use of manpower and resources. You can arrest the adults, what about the children, what do you do with them?

If the Court Order is ignored, the police can physically remove all the vans from the site, which has far more effect than any piecemeal action.

That's a separate issue, maybe for another debate.

Because you are a fixed-abode citizen, the police can find you at home and arrest you - the travellers have no fixed abode, so tracking them down to arrest them is impossible.
You could count it on the fingers of Stumpy the chainsaw accident case, tony ...
the travellers have no fixed abode, so tracking them down to arrest them is impossible.

Not if there camped out on some beauty spot right in front of their ( the police ) eyes, andy.

I think your right, Dave.
"tracking them down to arrest them is impossible. " - err they are in the kin field! they don't need tracking down.
tonyav - //Not if there camped out on some beauty spot right in front of their ( the police ) eyes, andy. //

Ok, you arrest a traveller, and he will probably get bail - he certainly can't be held in a cell indefinitely. He is released, and his family and community have all moved on, and he re-joins them.

Now what?
TTT - //Not if there camped out on some beauty spot right in front of their ( the police ) eyes, andy. //

For now ...

The whole reason why the lawless elements in travellers' communities operate with impunity is the inability to find them once they move on.
No Andy - you arrest 50 travellers - leave them in jail until you can find a (sadly elusive I hope) Magistrate and then they have to post substantial bail before you set them free - and you keep the money if they don't show up in court when they should.

At least they are inconvenienced and lose some cash.
he will probably get bail

Don't give them bail, do as they do with drunks and such like when they get arrested and spend a night in the cells. Put them in front of a magistrate the next day.
"Ok, you arrest a traveller, and he will probably get bail - he certainly can't be held in a cell indefinitely. He is released, and his family and community have all moved on, and he re-joins them. " - I don't care I want them gone ASAP and I want them to find it more difficult than they currently do to bring misery to the indigenous population. Is that so wrong? I get sick and tired of society protecting and making excuses for these low life parasitical outlaws. If we made it impossible to carry on like they do they might actually join the human race.
It's not the inability ... it is the lack of desire.
I have the utmost respect for 'real' travellers, who operate completely outwith modern society and expect nothing from it - but equally cause it no harm.

I have a biting contempt for the faux variety, who ponce and steal off the rest of us and leave unhappiness and filth in their wake
yes SD, I also have a biting contempt for people like those on here who want to exchange platitudes rather than deal with the problem. "Ah the police are afraid" yada yada- bowlocks no one is afraid of them we just don't have the backing of our own society who'd rather send social services up to make sure the kids are getting 5 a day than stop them wrecking local amenities.
Must be expensive for local councils to clean up the land after these scum bags eventually get moved on ( usually a few miles down the road at another beauty spot under the same council ), surely a rise in council tax is inevitable to pay for this.
