From personal experience can anyone suggest a company or shop who sell heavy duty cotton dusters like the thick ones they made years ago?

Amazon, ebay or Lakeland?
Try Lakeland, they have good quality things like that.

(Personally, I think that good microfibre cloths are better....)
Lakeland are expensive. If you don't need large ones, I would get cheap cotton towels that are used by airlines and beach hotels such as these http://www.richardhaworth.co.uk/bath-linen/face-cloths/plain-terry-facecloths
I use damp micro cloths now. Mr T still uses dusters ...and smelly polish.
Micro cloths are soooo much better than traditional dusters - I hate to admit this but it's true!
