I wish to delete my gmail account but I get the message that deleting it will delete contacts/data etc. What I'm not sure of is will all my contacts still be present in my yahoo & hotmail accounts. Your advice please.

Yes your other email accounts will be OK. But any site you have used with that email account will not let you in unless you update your personal details with a prefered email address prior to closing it.
