is there any way a land owner can be made to cut a very overgrown hedge? the farmer who owns the field next to us has let his hedge grow to about 15 feet high, we have cut it back on our side for years but can not manage to do the top which is now reaching over by about 10 feet putting our plants in permanent shade. I know that on the other side of the field the hedge has now reached way over the height of the houses and I don't intend that to happen here, we will ask him again to cut it (we have asked him several times already but have had no response) and if nothing happens oh says he will pay somebody to do it for us, but, will that be illegal ? and if that happens how low can it be cut down to?

Is it growing near or under electric wires if so the company might have rules to the height if its within so many feet of the wires
Enter 'hedge growing over fence' into your search box. Plenty of advice there.
As a last resort and if all else fails, I know what I'd do.
Let's just say, the hedge would end up feeling poorly and would probably end up wilting/withering away and might even perish .... poor thing .... must be something it ate/drank :P
Disclaimer - I do not condone the use of illegal/immoral methods, in order to "weaken" a hedge :)

thanks for all your replies, don't look like its going to be easy, there are no wires above the hedge, so I suppose the council is our only hope.
