If there's an old fireplace in your home that needs boarding up because you don't want to use it - in fact, you want to put an electric fire in front f it - who do you get to do that boarding job?

make sure theres an air vent in the block your installing or get the chimney block at the roof top
plasterer
It rather depends on how versatile the tradesman is, Vernon.

You'll need a batten frame within the opening, then plasterboard (carpenter.)

You would then need it plastered (plasterer.)

Plenty of plasterers and carpenters can do both jobs easily. It depends on how co-operative they are.

Alternatively... a carpenter can fix the framing, and then fix "Masterboard" (or equivalent). This is fireproof, and needs no other finish ... just paint.

A decent handyman could do whichever you go for.

Can I suggest you make sure no birds can get down the chimney and get stuck behind the board ? It is very horrible listening to a bird scrabbling and dying because you can't set it free. I have an open fire, and I get a bird down the chimney about twice a year, but fortunately I can free it from the removable cover.
