Most of the regulars around here monitor the threads that they've posted on recently, in order to see if the questioner posts a subsidiary question (or if someone else posts to prove that they've got their answer wrong!) Aw that's a shame - I wanted to thank someone.
Ooh has someone helped you out recently??
I'm sure they'll know how grateful you are, if you've thanked them in your reply and awarded them "best answer" :)

Otherwise you can keep an eye out for another thread which the relevant person is posting on (e.g. by going to their profile) and add a message there.

(In VERY exceptionalcircumstances the Ed will put members directly in touch with each other but it can't be done normally).
Best do what gizmonster suggests, contacting them personally is not the best idea, they will know how much you appreciated their help
I wanted to say what buench said, but it was way too long, great answer

You have certainly helped me out in the last 5 minutes Gizmonster with my iphone query :o) (The Father in Law says thanks too by the way!) but I aso want to thank someone who helped me a few weeks ago.
Ah, I never really thought about the "best answer" so if I click that on the question which she helped me with, will she be notified?
I don't think they'll get a notification as such, but I personally tend to keep an eye out on my best answers, to see who has awarded them and when; so awarding a best answer may help your cause :)
>>> so if I click that on the question which she helped me with, will she be notified?

Not directly but when she checks her profile she'll see that her 'Best Answer' score has gone up and, by clicking on 'Best', she'll be able to see who awarded her 'best answers'.

Some people hardly ever check their 'Best Answer' tallies whereas others (like me!) check them several times per day ;-)
She'll see it on her profile, might even look at why she got best answer, see this question and go ahhhh, that's me, how nice is shivvy, so happy I helped them then :)

Oooooh ..... I now feel like singing a Carly Simon song to ya lol :P
Giz:
I think I know the song you're referring to ;-)

Actually I go to my profile several times per day to see if a questioner has posted a subsidiary query on a thread that I answered on (so that I don't leave them with only half an answer). However I admit to glancing at my 'Best Answer' score every time I go there ;-)

Shivvy:
That's another one on my tally. Thank you!

..... just as long as you now I'm only jesting with ya - a bit of friendly banter ya know lol :)
