I'm worried as I haven't seen him bringing food to the nest all week. OK I'm not watching it every minute but I go in several times a day. She had to leave the nest and hunt herself yesterday and I was terrified for the babies. She seems to be looking for him all the time. Anybody know when he was last seen? I hope it's just me missing him.
Please put me out of my misery:-(

Chicks in danger of falling out of the nest if the male/female? keep messing about with the next. They keep trying to move away but are getting too near the edge for my liking.
LB, have you seen the male just lately? I haven't seen him for the last three days. The female seems to be doing all the hunting now.
Question Author
No Tilly. I see the chicks on their own a lot of the time recently and occasionally see the female arrive back in the nest. I'm finding it all very nerve-wracking this year, especially with what happened at Loch Garten.

I thought there were three chicks. Did one die?
Question Author
Talking to myself here but never mind I'll carry on. Shocked today to see one chick twice as big, at least, as the other one. And on their own again. And still haven't seen the daddy.
Not alone, LB, I'm here too, off and on ...after your Monday post i watched for awhile and sorry to see only two chicks ... No idea what happened to No 3 and not seen too much of the adult/ s.

Plenty of food around the nest but I doubt they're feeding themselves yet ...

Hi seekeerz, have you seen the male at all because I haven't and I'm thinking it's the female who's bringing the food to the nest? Agree they're probably not feeding themselves yet but they seem to be other own most of the time. Oooh I do worry for them. I thought this was supposed to be pleasurable!
This is the first time I've watched the Goshawks so i really don't know what is the nome ....who does the feeding, how many are likely to be reared, etc.

It's certainly been a bad year at Loch Garten, but I'm happy to see things are fairly settled at my favourite spot at Loch of the Lowes ....the new couple hatched two this year and they're thriving, but we've had a few heartaches there, as well .....think it goes with the territory I'm afraid, just nature doing her thing :))
...norm ..ruddy spellcheck thingy !

Oh Loch Garten was heartbreaking and Odin has still not been seen so goodness knows what's happened to him.

The male Goshawk is supposed to be the one to feed the chicks so don't know what's happened to him either.

Looks like one has fledged, at least I hope it has and that the one left is the small one. Don't suppose anyone saw it happen?
It's not good news I'm afraid - Tilly knows what has happened

Thank you Toorak. What awful news. Exactly what I hoped hadn't happened.
They are going to be ringing the remaining chick on Monday or Tuesday and it will be given a health check at the same time.

Some people who are watching the webcam and chatting, are concerned, The concern is that, as the dead, diseased chick has been eaten by the female and the remaining chick, they might become infected too. However, they are stronger and may not succumb. It's all very worrying.

Thanks Tilly. I can read the comments now so that's useful Poor thing seems to be on its own most of the time.
