A friend of mine was knocked off his bicycle by a courier opening his car door. The accident happened on a fairly quiet residential street He is in his late 70s and was extremely shaken quite badly bruised broke cheek bone under his eye and in a lot of pain. He was extremely fortunate that an off duty paramedic was passing and plenty of passers by stopped to help. He was taken to hospital by ambulance but not kept in after scans and 'blood letting' to reduce the huge bruise around his eye. He has had to go back to hospital today to decide whether he wants to have an operation to set the bone or just to let it knit together by itself. My question is - The driver has admitted fault and it has been caught on CCTV. If it had happened with 2 cars each would have notified their insurers where doe my friend stand with regard to the incident - does he have a claim against the other driver and who should he contact?

Yes, he has a claim. He should consult a solicitor and allow him to handle the matter.
