Our elevated garden slopes down to the retaining wall of our patio. Despite shoring the garden the border along the top of the wall/bottom of the garden remains damp. I'm trying to find attractive/showy plants for the bed along the top of the wall that will tolerate damper soil. Has anyone any suggestions?

how damp? and acid or alkaline? What sort of thing have you had there which have failed? sun or shade?
I would Google marginal plants. These are plants that do well around ponds and other water features.
Have a play with this:

Set 'Moisture' to either 'Moist but well-drained' or 'Poorly drained', as appropriate. Then complete as many of the other fields as you feel like. (You don't need to complete them all).
