Can a prospective employer check when or where you have been travelling? I only ask because a friend has somewhat over embellished their CV with places they have been, silly I know, but he wants to know if the employer can check?

I don't think an employer can definitely check whether someone has been in a particular country on a certain date. However, I would be very careful about lying about having visited a certain country when you have never been there. Imagine if the interviewer started asking about famous landmarks, particular customs that a country has etc and you have no idea how to respond or what they are talking about!

Thanks,

That's exactly what I said but he has been to all the places, he just lied about when and for how long, to fill some gaps in his CV.
A friend of mine did something similar, said he went to South America for a year when in reality he was one the dole in the UK.

I doubt they would check as I imagine it's not really relevant to the job in hand.
