Lately I've been finding odd items of household rubbish in and around my garden.
Things like plastic food packaging, tin cans, a jar of seafood sauce, etc, etc.
My first suspicion was fox's bringing it in during the night, after raiding bins.
This morning however I found a 15k size bag of dry dog food pellets out side the garden gate!
It had been ripped open and a murder of crows were helping themselves to what was left.

It just surprised me that a fox would carry such a large bag of dog food kibble.
Any ideas ?

They will scavenge Chip. Particularly if someone has been in the habit locally of putting food out for them. The one that used to pay our next door neighbour a visit used to bring 2 cubs with her and would knock the food recycle bins about on collection day if they were left out overnight. Badgers Chip.? We once had one that visited the, thankfully our neighbour's, garden. The damage and mess was a sight. It dug up his lawn and made it look like the Somme.
Not a fox IMO but neighbours throwing rubbish over your fence or leaving their junk of you to pick up.
Had the bag been full or was it a part bag?

Woof, it had been brought as far as the gate, then clawed oped, I think.
It looked about 80% full with more on the ground. I guess it was too big to get through the slats of the gate.

Togo, Badgers may be a possibility, as the are very strong, although they don't seem as scavenging as the fox.

Edd, I have good neighbors, so I don't think its them.

They used to come down from the field at the top of the road and we always wondered if the people in one of the top end houses was feeding them. Our dog used to go bananas barking and running up and down the hall at about 1am in the morning when they were about. As you have said not widespread but possible, and they are powerful animals.

The plot had thickened this morning but I feel sure now we've nailed it. No rubbish in the garden this morning but I did find a bird nesting box on my block paving area, which had been torn from the fence, close to where the dog food was found.
Sadly the box had been used by blue tits for several years but is now totally wrecked.
I did though find some clues. Scratch marks on the box, seem consistent with badger claws, plus some badger hairs were found ingrained in the wood.
Hopefully the young blue tits had fledged and flown away, as I had seen some flitting around in the nearby trees, the previous day.

Thank you Togo, SPOT ON!
Lol Chip Ta. I am always wary when I have dug horse manure into my veg patch for a couple of days or so afterwards. The smell attracts them and they once dug it up again for me. It drives our daft dog mad as well, and I have to put up temporary barriers up to keep her off the garden or she is in there swooning.
Looked out of the window early today Chip and guess what?.................... Great big Badger trundling down the street. Not seen em for years, have you sent the pest up here? Weird coincidence or what. Bloke next door is on red alert, he has only just got his lawn back in shape after it looked like a mad JCB driver had been practicing on it. :))

Ha ha Togo, not responsible.
I think the badgers have had a hard time finding their usual food and drink lately and have had to go further afield to satisfy their needs.
With a bit of rain on the cards, they should find slugs, worms etc easier to find.....but hopefully not on your neighbors lawn ;-)
Haha or mine Chip. :((
