In the mid 70s we went to a gift shop around Chipping Campden and the man who owned and served in the shop was the image of Wilfrid Brambell. When we left my mother thought it probably was him as they were too similar but there's no mention of it online. Does anyone know if he had an extra job there?

It seems unlikely. He lived in Pimlico at the time: http://www.shadyoldlady.com/location.php?loc=2607

Not easy to mistake the two Ronnie Barker had an antiques shop in the Cotswolds.
i doubt it but if he did i hope his assistant was called harold
They say that everyone has a double somewhere out there

Thanks for that. If he was living in Pimlico in the 70s that probably confirms it was his double or maybe a relative as he was a similar age and had the same white hair and chin etc. I'll now use the Chipping Campden site and maybe they know if he was a relation.
It's funny how people can resemble famous people.

There used to be a guy who frequented local pubs who was so much the double of Rod Stewart that peoile would argue with him when he denied that he was! He took it all in good part, because he chose to resemble his idol.

Viewers of Auf Wiedesen Pet will remember the late Gary Holton - who was a singer in a band before he became an actor, quipping in the series about his resemblance to Ronnie Wood, and the occasions it had allowed him favours with impressionable young ladies.
