How long do you let your cat sleep for before you start to worry?

I went to bed last night and my cat was asleep on the sofa. Got up this morning and he was still asleep...and still is. He hasn't even woke up for food.

Now...he gets in and out through my sons window so he could have been out half the night gallivanting, we wouldn't know, and my daughter comes in from work in the early hours so she might have fed him, but still, this much sleeping makes me worry sometimes.

Yeah...he reacts when I stroke him.

He's awake now...OH shook dreamies at him and he instantly jumped up. I didn't think of doing that.

If you don't have a cat dreamies are like cat drugs.

Lol I have a youngish cat who basically sleeps 23 hours a day, she won't come out of my bedroom and the only time she seems to stir is when I get up and when I go to bed.
The chances are he has been out and has gone back to sleep - if you are really worried open a can of tuna and wave it under his nose, if he doesn't stir take him to the vets.

When he's awake he doesn't display any signs of being ill. He eats, drinks, and watches telly and occasionally, if we're lucky, he might let us stroke him and show us some gratitude :-)

Agree with the Dreamies here too.
We have a 3 year old, who, admittedly, is out from 10 pm to 7.30am, but then steadfastly refuses to move for the rest of the day apart from 5.30pm when her tea is demanded. Come 10pm you have to prise her off the carpet, seat, bed or wherever.

Oh gawd...I wish my cats would sleep 23 hours straight! The plump girlie isn't too bad...but deaf Caspar is a shouting machine. Sometimes he shoots down the stairs at constant 10-15 minute intervals...shouting at the top of his voice. Or, he'll lie on the floor...just out of sight..and make regular "purps" and little meows. He loves the sound of his voice...or would if he could hear it.
Several times over the years he's "disappeared" in my flat...and then I go into panic mode.

One of our cats sleeps most of the night at the foot of the bed, wakes up around lunchtime for a wee, bite to eat, a patrol round his patchand a quick harrass of one of our other cats. Then, exhausted by the effort, he sleeps most of the rest of the day, til suppertime. It's a,hard life!

Gotta love them really.

Their sleeping patterns are strange. My boy has never woke me up for breakfast...but he's there during the week knowing what time OH gets up for work...waiting for his alarm to go off. He doesn't meow or come in the room...he just sits...waiting.

Weekends....we hear nothing from him. It's like he knows the days of the week.

Caspar lurks outside my bedroom door. In spite of being deaf,he starts meowing as soon as my alarm goes off....feedme...feedme....feedme!
Maybe there are fibrations he feels?

Pasta - I think they have a sixth sense. My last cat, sadly gone, was very much an outside cat, he loved nothing better than throwing himself in front of strangers. God forbid a stranger ever entered the house though.
