when i drove hgv's in the 60's we used to have A,B,andC licence plates in the windscreen but due to old age and dementia i cannot remember what they were for,any help please

Where's TWR, when he's needed?
I THINK it was an indication of the load - hazardous, waste etc
I'm ashamed to say I can not remember, but yes Roizee, they had to be displayed on the bottom left hand side of the screen.
If I remember correctly the C licence was for the carriage of own goods. The B Licence was for hire or reward carriage within certain radius or on contract basis whereas the A licence was for unlimited radius for hire and reward for the carriage of goods for gain.
I think!!!
I'm sure the firm I worked for was on "A" App, we carried near enough everything in General Haulage.

Thanks Appreciative I think we are nearly there from what i can faintly remember that the A licence was to carry goods from one company on contract but could only return to base empty ie no return load. Thanks to all that have helped and if they can find more info would greatly appreciated

Thanks hc4361 I can see where your going friend but in them days there were no licences for waste etc not like today but thanks
