I've always loved gingham...this means I can resurrect a gingham smock top I have. :-)
A few weeks ago I read that a sold out primark gingham dress is going for silly money on eBay.

We didn't have the boater but we did have a choice of three different ginghams (how lucky were we)? Yellow, pale blue or dark blue. And they had to be bought from certain shops in Ilfracombe or our mothers would have been shot.

We had summer dresses that were a blue/black/white check but not gingham, but in Needlework we had to make aprons for cookery, and they were gingham with the colours to match our 'house colours' of red, blue, yellow or green. Ours was red, and I never did finish it - it ended up as a curtain round a bookcase in my bedroom!

Uniform wise they were very strict but we managed to get away with lots of things which were completely within the rules but not entirely as were intended.

No gingham that I can remember (too damn cold in Scotland), but there was a girls school in Glasgow whose pupils had to wear black stockings - we used to try to spot them in Central Station :)
