Ship’S Clock Chimes

Any horologists around? I have just acquired a vintage ship’s clock, a Schatz. It runs beautifully but the chimes don’t match up with the time. I did some research and found that what should work is waiting for it to chime an hour and then setting the hour hand to the hour it had chimed. The problem is that my clock is chiming the half hour chime when the minute hand is on the hour and vice versa. Any advice please?

Can you take the hands off and adjust it that way?

no way! Its a 300 quid clock!!
If the hands are held on with a pin, just remove the pin, adjust the hands and put the pin back in.

I don’t think so Tuvok.....also I am fairly sure there is a less invasive way of doing it...I know how to reset Westminster chimes on my short long case but the marine chime is different.
It was just a thought - as since you said it was vintage, perhaps somebody had had the hands off in the past!

Only people who know what they are doing!
£300 or not it seems like the hands have been put on it in the wrong position. You can do it yourself or take it to a Horologist for repair.

Thank you for your comments, I spent today fiddling and waiting for the clock to chime and success! clock is now keeping good time and chiming appropriately. I didn’t have to take the hands off although if I had the guts to do so, it may have been faster and easier.
Ooooh, you played 'Beat the Clock!' and you won.

Well done - I'll get me coat.
