I used Humax PVRs for many years but they have got increasingly 'noisy' ie you can hear the over the tv sometimes especially when I am taping two programs at the same time.

This noise seems worse as I have changed to models with a larger hardrive - at the moment I have a 1TB model.
As this needs replacing and I only really need 350 gb for my use I have decided to save money and get a brand new (they were all previously refurbs) smaller hardrive model but with aall the same features.

Do you think this will make it quieter? When I hold it (working) there seems less vibrations - so I laid it on some bubble wrap which improved it somewhat.

Thanks

This kind of noise is inevitable but seldom noticeable. If that is the sort of noise you are getting try blowing compressed air through the vent at the back - this vent is to allow air in to the fan, The manual also...

Could it be that the fans are clogged with dust?
Question Author
Never thought of that. Are there fans and where are they?
I put mine at the bottom of a stack ie. with a dvd player on top and that seems to eliminate the noise which as you mention seems related to vibration.
make sure your not blocking any vents underneath it with your bubble wrap
What model is it?

HDR 2000-T
Have looked and do not seem to be blocking anything. Have tried all ways and now have it with the DVD player underneath. Will try the reverse order but dvd player is very light and small

The manual also recommends doing regular software updates.
