Hi
Recently bought a Peugeot 2008 automatic that has the Stop/Start feature while driving. When I stop the engine cuts out until I take my foot off of the brake pedal, at which time the engine fires up again. ,I don't really like sitting at traffic lights etc., with my foot on the brake as the brake lights can dazzle the driver behind me. My question is, does this feature really save petrol and so become Eco friendly ?? All opinions gratefully received !!
Many thanks

It's cobblers. Very annoying feature in traffic.
I have always thought that this facility is pointless....it just goes to show how desperate the car companies are.
You would have to do a lot of stop starting to save a few drops of fuel.
If it's getting on your *** press the ECO off switch and deactivate it.
Still having the stop start feature lowers your road tax.
Tonyav...I never knew that !

I have a new Fiesta....1.5 tdi, and it is giving me about 60 mpg !

More than that if I really try.
brake lights on are fine - if they dazzle him/her then they are too close...the defensive driving being always be able to see the bottom of the tires in front of you as a bare minimum, so if they are too close, tuff.
Good miles to the gallon, mikey.
But if the stop start thingy is annoying you switch it off.
How do you switch it off, please?
We have a Mercedes (not a posh one) that has this feature. I don't like it and would love to turn it off. I don't have a manual.
depends. How much time each day do you spend stopped at lights or in traffic jams? I could have saved quite a bit over the years when I had to drive through the middle of London every day; same for when the M25 comes to a halt. In non-megalopolis driving, perhaps it wouldn't have been so much.

Do your brake lights really dazzle people? If so, why not just put the gear shift into Park till you start again?

Every car I've driven has had a handbrake that you can use when you stop in traffic - I always do. Even easier now it's an electric brake and takes itself off when you press the accelerator.
Dazzling drivers with your brake lights unnecessarily is against the highway code.

Put your handbrake on and take your foot off the brake pedal.

I do put the handbrake on and take my foot off of the brake - then the engine fires up again, which in my opinion negates the use of the stop/start system. More then likely I will turn this feature off.

Are you engaging N?
I think you have to turn it off every time you turn-on the ignition fbg. In other words, there's no way to disable it permanently.
I think you have to select P for the function to work with the footbrake off. ( I drive a manual)
Incidentally, no point in putting an automatic into N when stopped at traffic lights etc. See this from about 7:15 onwards.

Sorry Fbg, I wrote my comment rather quickly after reading DTCs post. I didn't mean to aim it at you though it appeared that I did.
