The only man to be world champion on 2 and 4 wheels and a true gentleman. Sadly missed.

God speed you, John.

A gentleman and a true champion.
I really don't think that life was the same for him, after his son Henry died in 2009 (aged 19) in a freak accident, during a Formula 2 event.
R.I.P.
Motor sport not my thing, but I recall a programme some time ago that showed him to be fascinating, generous & an all-round gentleman.

RIP John.
Another one of my childhood heroes has departed, along with Mike Halewood and Jim Clark.
Very sad news, I doubt his double world champion will ever be matched, he should have received a knighthood. R.I.P
gosh, that takes me back. Well, an old man, a long and rewarding life, you can't ask for more.
He won his title in an era when a fatal crash was a very likely possibility , every time a driver went out unto a race track .

Lucky to have come through to achieve his 3 score years and ten
Absolutely agree Vulcan. If he did both world championships nowadays he would have been knighted no problem. In those days (and arguably today) they didn't warrant 'awards'. I wonder what will happen to his vehicle collection? I recall seeing a tv prog where he had every bike and car he ever won on in his 'garage'!
Sad news, RIP John.
RIP John.
Like melv, a childhood hero of mine gone. I'm surprised that he never received a knighthood.
RIP John Surtees.
Legend.
