Well it started about a year ago when we noticed our food was freezing and ice was forming at the back even though the thermostat was on 2.

Well that seemed to go off but a few month back the fridge stopped reaching its correct temperature, even at the highest setting! Ice is still forming at the top of the fridge in the back, the light comes on and theres still a buzzing sound from the fridge itself.
Ive checked the seal and it seems ok (the bottom part of the seal is still on the door but looks like its been tugged at), ive also cleaned around the seal for any dirt etc.

One more thing is that the milk tray thats on the door snapped off so we have had to put the milk in the 2 salad buckets at the bottom and put the salad on the shelf above, could that be a factor?

cheers

Two ideas:
1) your thermostat has failed. It should shut down the compressor when the fridge reaches temperature, but isn't. You may be able to replace it yourself - read the manual - or it'll be a quick job for a repair man. Maybe 40 with labour?
2) Is the drainage channel blocked at the back? It will be two sloping channels about half way down. If there's water in the channel, the pipe is blocked with debris. Clean this out with a pipe cleaner or piece of wire until the water drains away.

The location of your food isn't an issue: they just recommend salads at the bottom so it doesn't dry out as quickly.

thx im going to check the pipes, thx again!
To check the thermostat, put a thermometer next to the unit and see what it reads - should be about 3 degrees C. Although you say you've checked the seals, I wonder whether (warm) air is leaking in. Warm air rises - up to the thermostat, making the compressor work harder and driving the temperature at the cooling plate at the back down further, causing the freezing. To test this theory out you could seal the edges up overnight with masking tape and see what it looks like in the morning. This 'problem' would also be aligned to hot weather - does your experience of when it occurs correspond to the recent hot weather?

No it happened just before the hot weather started.

Ill have a go with the masking tape though to make sure it aint a seal.
