JC is going up in my estimations all the time. Don't like his politics at all but he's a thoroughly decent chap. He sees where many cannot that Parliament must implement the democratic will of the majority. Thanks Jezza.

The Tories have a majority, so if their MPs capitulate, it will be 3 figures. I can't see Corbyn's whip holding, and the LibDems, SNP, Plaid, and Ulster Unionists are against, so coyld be interesting.
Question Author
"And Corbyn is behaving despicably, and needs to go asap." - How? by running his party? right oh!
By mass disobedience.

If nobody takes a blind bit of notice to Corbyn's decrees, and if he lises the two by-elections, he could be out on his ear by the summer.

Only problem is, I cannot for the life of me work out who is at all better?
Question Author
gromit:"The Tories have a majority, so if their MPs capitulate" - err please translate, capitulate? to what?
The majority of Conservative MPs were remainers.
If May puts on the thumb-screws and makes them vote against their wishes, then they have capitulated.

I am now bored with this thread so I will not be posting again.
So no response to my query regarding your figures or logic, then?
NJ,

46 Million were entitled to vote in the EU Referendum.
17.4 Million voted to leave.

So invoking A50 should not ne a rubber stamping exercise, because less than half the population wanted ito leave.
No, they didn't, Gromit. Those who failed to vote were effectively saying, 'I couldn't give a f... either way', so we have to attend to those who 'could give a f...'.
Jackdaw,
There will not be 100% in favour of invoking. It is not going to hapoen, you should just recognise the fact and move on. There will be Labour rebels, Tory rebels but it will get through the commons.
This idea that there should be total unanamous vote to invoke when the vote was relatively close and 48% diasagreed is perverse. We live in a democracy, and there will ge some disent about invoking, and that is goid.
The DUP are for Brexit and what is more are more or less part of a ConDUP pact at the moment. They are of course, NOT speaking for the people of N Ireland on this issue but there you go
I wholly endorse Gromit's last post
BA for Gromit at 22:54 !
Why do people always include those that dont vote for something as a signal it they were on 'thier side'

If you dont vote you dont give a monkeys either way; as Jack says.

True enough Gromitit wont, nor should be 100%. However I'm not sure how represetning your "local constituency" should be potentially used to override the democratic will of the people?
“So invoking A50 should not ne a rubber stamping exercise, because less than half the population wanted ito leave.”

Er..no. We’re back to flawed logic. You cannot assume that those who did not vote wish to remain. People do not vote for all sorts of reasons. If you wanted to be sure of remaining the best way to do so was to vote. If all those who didn’t vote wanted to remain they have only themselves to blame for the result. It doesn’t matter as far as this question goes but I really don’t know why such ridiculous reasoning prevails.
it never ceases to amaze how the four-fifths of five-eigths of f-all argument keeps being put forward as valid.....
