Rac Update.

I'm putting this as a separate post as I think it's important for lone women especially to bear in mind......
I've had a long chat with RAC complaints and this is being taken further but......
The reason the breakdown company wasn't requested by the RAC until two hours and ten minutes after my first call was that they try to get one of their own vehicles to the breakdown first.......they had been unable to do that so at 7.15 they called the local garage......ten or fifteen minutes away from where I was.
That makes a lie of the number of times the RAC assured me that I was a priority......their recovery was on the way and would be with me in about ten minutes.....
And if I have the bad luck to ever have this happen again I'll call this local garage myself......☺

I think you might experience this situation with any of them. I did with the AA. I was alone in the dark in January in torrential rain on a wild country road in North Dorset. Woman with child alone, priority etc. Only had a tiny amount of phone battery left, all a bit terrifying. From the first call it was an hour later before they rang me back and said don't worry he's really near you. So where is he I asked? On the M3 she said. Anyone who knows the local geography will understand what a ridiculous thing to say that was. I'll never forget that night. I left the AA because of it.
I think I might, Prudie.....I'm sure every company receives bouquets and brickbats.....
If we rely on a company to keep us safe they need to do that or not offer the service at all......
If priority is promised to vulnerable people that promise should be kept even if it costs them more.....and,ignoring Anotheoldgit's bitter and silly remark on my other thread, I include men who may be in a vulnerable position.....
If I had to choose between a car load of young chaps and a lone, male disabled driver I would give priority to the latter.....x

Quite agree, gness. Not quite the same thing, but my sister's garage is allied to 'Sheila's Wheels' and, I think, a couple of others. My nephew is dragged out regularly to assist stranded ladies. Perhaps if you ask some local garages who they recommend for assistance? I'm a bit vague as to details, I'm afraid.
