A crack appeared in the kitchen ceiling and got gradually worse over the last couple of days. The shower in our bedroom is just above the spot but there was no sign of damp on the ceiling. We asked our neighbour who is a builder to pop over and have a quick look. He came over and poked the ceiling, just as our son got in the shower. You can guess what happened next - water poured from the hole chaos ensued!! The shower must have been leaking for some time without us realising and our neighbour says he will come back on Monday and pull the offending bit down to have a look at what's going on, thank god we are insured. Not a happy bunny :-((

Good gracious! Still at least your son didn't end up in the kitchen sink.

Soon get sorted Margo.x
♫ There's a hole in your ceiling, Dear Margot, Dear Margo.♫

Thank goodness the bathroom floor didn't collapse.
Aww, poor you! We had similar about 9 years ago. Pipe loose under bath above our kitchen. Leaking slowly for weeks/ months. Part of our kitchen ceiling caved in. What a chaotic mess that was. So I empathise. Don't worry too much, it will all get sorted soon.....x
Check your insurance policy - our excess for water leakage went up to £300 a couple of years ago.

Just what I thought Mamya - he's 6'5" and could have caused complete havoc! On the plus side the ceiling needed re-plastering - every cloud and all that.
Why are bathrooms above kitchens?
Similar thing happened to me. Had a slow leak that we knew nothing about. I was cooking dinner one day and the ceiling came down into the food....
Easier water supply.
Easier to have all the plumbing works together.
Plumbing, Tilly. I suppose it is better than all that mucky water pouring down onto a carpet or sofa.

Had the same thing 4 days before Christmas just as we were leaving to visit the family! Felt on the dormer had gone above the landing. Called the insurance company as regards the decoration inside and told we weren't covered!

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the insurance company try to wriggle out of payment, they normally do.
When our tank burst in the loft flooding the hall and stairs below the insurance company paid up really quickly.
Tilly- bathrooms are usually above kitchens as it's easier to run the pipe work up that way.
