Is there any way to find where a Jewish immigrant ancestor of mine came from? The only records I can find of him are from his marriage in England in 1840 and I'd love to know where he came from and when.

My local library runs a taster session on using Ancestry and were very helpful when I needed help. Maybe yours does the same. Take along any documentation you have and ask them for help. It sounds fascinating. Good luck.

Good idea! Thanks, Tyrion.
Have you looked at the subsequent census returns?
They ought to give you a country of birth.
