....Andre Rieu

Answer, hugely average talent who've made their career and fortune out performing classic songs almost guarenteed to be hits.

IMO the biggest culprits of this genre must be....Robson and Jerome...

Robson and Jerome who made hits and a great deal of money while almost destroying songs like 'Unchained Melody', 'I Believe', 'Up on the Roof' and 'What Becomes of the Broken Hearted'.

Thank you.
Robson & Jerome just dabbled didn't they for a year or two. I like Buble and Andre Rieu is okay. Never really heard much Clayderman- just MOR versions of tunes on a piano I recall
robson and jerome? you've got a good memory
You are of course entitled to your opinion.
I'll second that, janzman. You can also add Susan Boyle and that woman who sang on the cruise ship programme.

aelmpvw, you obviously know so your memory's good too.
I always thought Robson and Jerome were a bit tongue in cheek. The wife likes
Bubbly and Rieu so I cant offer an opinion, if I want a dinner tomorrow.
Robson & Jerome recorded 2 albums and 3 singles (all reaching number 1) in 1995/96. I thing this was just one aspect of their careers - they have been successful actors for around 30 years and both are still on TV now.
I'm not sure they were guaranteed hits- there are plenty of actors who have tried but failed to make a success in the music industry

fiction-factory If you compare Robson and Jerome Wikipedia you'll find the former has enjoyed a vastly more successful acting career than the former, and anyway I was talking about their singing.

>>There are plenty of actors who have tried and failed

My response didn't finish....I said 'Would you care to elucidate'
Hi- if you meant 'latter' when you typed the second 'former'. Jerome Flynn has been in lots of films and TV programmes, including Ripper St and Game of Thrones. Ronson Green may have had more appearances but I would say both have been successful.
I only mentioned their long acting careers acting and contrasted it to their short singing project because I am not sure i agree that they've "made their career and fortune out performing classic songs almost guarenteed to be hits. "

You could take this idea back 60 years and suggest Elvis Presley never did anything but sing other people's songs compared to Buddy Holly who wrote, orchestrated and performed all his own songs.....imo the best ever of his generation.
Too many actors to mention. Hasselhoff, Eddie Murphy, Bruce Willis (okay he had a few hits), Robert Downey Jnr., William Shatner, Clint Eastwood, Scarlett Johannssen, Paris Hilton...
I don't think fame in one field guarantees hit records

^They were on there, but other session vocalists were used more than one might expect.

I thought that everyone you mentioned were quite good. Not good enough IMHO to cause me to spend my money on their songs, but I quite like listening to them.
I don't know if "hugely average" can be a valid term, but I'm being a bit pedantic and I think you're joking anyway. :)
