he might not want to go to the trouble of installing a bed for you while you wait. I expect they just do the jobs in the order they come in, as most repairers do, and he doesn't want to have to phone you to get you into the workshop when it's your turn.
Okay windows icon again. Right click it this time.
Choose control panel
in the list you will see System and security, and a sub heading Review your computers status.
Click on review your computers status.
Recovery will be there.
Be careful not to delete w10 if you still have the option to revert to your previous operating system. You are looking for a date to effect recovery from just prior to your "event".
He is talking bull Baths. A 30 minute job even unless he intends to wipe it and do a complete w10 install.

Don't even think of going to a repair shop at this stage. It could cost a small fortune for a small job.

For the moment I suggest you follow the advice which Togo gave at 10.50 this morning.

Hans.
Haven't said anything - surely there's a neighbour around who is reasonably pc savvy?

xx
He was just covering himself. No one wants to have someone waiting there while they investigate and try solutions. Nor do they want to be hassled into looking at something immediately and pushing previously jobs away until later.
Another way to open settingS Baths. Again click windows icon.
Now top right if you hover your cursor or pointer over the 4 horizontal bars it should say All apps.
Click on this and you will open up all the app tiles in alphabetical order.
Scroll down to "S" and choose settings.
Then update and security and we where we tried to be in my first set of instructions.
So choose recovery, then option 2. Go back to an earlier build.

any joy yet - at times, you just want to chuck them or blow them up

where's this old lady thing coming from as I certainly made no inference. Baths is a spritely twenty-one (as women in my book are never older than that) and, more seriously, she ain't old, just a mature twenty-one.
