Why Has The Flashing Amber Disappeared On Pelican Crossings?

They all seem to be the usual traffic light sequence now.

The pedestrian signals now have timers on and it is the normal sequence for the traffic lights. Ones that don't have timers are the flashing Amber.
There have been various backward steps to crossings over the last few years. It puts me off that someone decided the indication should be on the pole that you are next to, rather than across the other side where it is natural to want to look.
OG there will be a green indicator across the road turning red when you have to stop crossing i have never seen a crossing yet without out this
